Before you set off on your calorie burning adventure...weigh yourself. Your body weight determines the caloric burn rate for exercise and daily activity: The more you weigh, the more you'll burn. If you lose a lot of weight, remember to factor your new weight when you calculate caloric burn.

  1. Go For a Walk! You can easily burn 400 calories by walking. Running might get you their faster, but if you don’t enjoy it, it won’t be worth the extra effort. To really feel the benefit, you will have to put more effort in than just going for a stroll, though. Try to maintain 3.5 miles an hour, and add in some hills.

  2. Have a Swim Swimming lengths at a moderate pace for 50 minutes will burn 500 calories. Swimming is pretty relaxing, too! Check out your local pool for the quieter times to swim, and make sure you are wearing a comfortable swimming costume.

  3. Recall Your Childhood, Go Skipping! Skipping might seem like a school child activity, but it’s actually really good for you. It takes just 20 minutes to skip off 400 calories, and it does a world of good for your muscles and heart, too.

  4. Ride a Bike Grab a bike. A cycle lasting 60 minutes will burn around 400 calories, and by increasing your speed, you can drastically increase your calorie burn.

  5. Dance Like Nobody's Watching! This is one of the most fun fat-burning activities around that does not feel like work. Most gyms and many community spaces (including churches) offer classes such as Zumba, hip hop cardio, cardio dance party, Jazzercise, belly and salsa dancing. You can even dance around your home to music you love or at a nightclub for an hour and burn at least 400 calories.

  6. Exercise DVD Exercise with a video or television program. Step aerobics is a vigorous form of exercise that results in rapid caloric burn. A 185-pound person can burn 444 calories in 30 minutes of high-impact step aerobics. You'll know you're at high impact if you feel your heart and respiration increase to the point where you can't speak without huffing.
